Louis ‘Allamander Rocky’ Palmay

As with other pet owners before me, these are the words that I never thought that I would have to write, because like them I had this belief that my little cat would live forever.

On Saturday the 4th of December 2021, my beautiful cat Louis Palmay sadly passed away. He was 13, he was magnificent, and though we all tried our best, him hardest of all of us, he sadly succumbed to CKD.

Louis came into my life when I needed him the most, and for 13 years he has given me nothing but unconditional love, and I will forever be grateful that he was a part of my life. He was pure love wrapped in a beautiful flat faced cat, with a fluffy exterior, and fabulous whiskers. I just had to look at him and he was purring. He loved kisses, making sure that he sat in front of my laptop or book, and he was happiest when we were cuddled up on the sofa or in bed, or sunbathing together. He enjoying looking out of the window, snooping on our neighbours, and the shake and taste of his favourite treats. The closer he could get to me the happier he was- we'd often fall asleep with me holding his paw or tail as he was wrapped around my head or cuddled up in the crook of my arm, resting his little chin delicately on me.

Louis was one of the last kittens to be sold at the Harrods pet department. He was the only tabby kitten in a litter of ginger babies and we knew he was a Palmay as soon as we first met him. After a somewhat gruelling interview process, (where I answered the questions and my mum played with Louis), he was heading home with us. He farted the entire car journey home, (and consequently never farted again), but as soon as I put my hands in the box to take him out he was purring. For 13 years we were inseparable.

I could never walk past Louis without kissing and cuddling him. His tummy smelt like home, and I loved smelling his breath when he yawned. I take comfort in knowing that my cat was loved daily. I would have given everything to have more time with him, but despite this pain, I am so happy to have had him in my life. I know that he lives on in me, and that a part of me is with him. I was with him at the end, giving him the kisses which he loved most of all, and telling him how loved he was.

A message for you the reader:

If you’ve read up until the end then I know that like me you’ve felt this pain before too. Louis was a source of love and goodness in my life and I want to do some good in his memory. I want to try and raise money for research into CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) as at the moment animals show up healthy until over 75% of damage has been done to their kidneys. As well as this I want to help those who can not afford to help their pets when they get sick.

I am currently in the process of researching which charities and research organisations I should donate to. I am also trying to figure out the best way to raise money in a safe and transparent way.

If you would like to help make other cats and animals lives better, then please get in touch. It doesn’t matter how small your donation, we can only make a difference if we try. You are able to donate directly into my account, or ask for me to get in touch with you once I have worked out the best way to collect for the charities I end up choosing.

Whilst I am researching who to fundraise for I have set up what is known as a ‘Birthday Fundraiser’ on Facebook. For about two months they let you fundraise whilst they pay the transaction fees, which means that 100% of what you donate goes directly to the charity. I chose to donate to Cats Protection. UPDATE: 25/03/2022 The Facebook fundraiser has now ended. We raised the wonderful total of £340.
